When Adam and Eve first heard the promise of a Redeemer, they looked for its speedy fulfillment. They joyfully welcomed their first-born son, hoping that he might be the Deliverer. But the fulfillment of the promise tarried. Those who first received it died without the sight.
Indeed they did! The Redeemer didn't show up for another four thousand years. It's a characteristic of God's dealings with His people that He has made promises about the first and second coming, but He has kept His people in the dark about when they would occur. God's plans take time to develop. Ellen White wrote, "God's purposes know no haste and no delay." Good words to apply to our lives today.
