Throughout Scripture, the picture of God is presented as a seeking, pursuing, searching God. He is the Good Shepherd seeking the lost sheep until He finds it. He is the woman persistently searching for her lost coin. She will not give up until the entire house is swept clean and she has done everything she can to find it. God is like that. He searches through the rubble to find His lost children, who are much more valuable than a lost coin.
He is the heartbroken father who gives his son the freedom to walk away and daily longs for his return. He is the lonely father, who every day waits, eagerly gazing down the road for the faintest glimpse of his son. When he eventually sees him making his way home, the father is overwhelmed with joy. He cannot hold himself back and runs to meet him, throws his arms around his son, and celebrates his return with a magnificent welcome party. In the same way our Heavenly Father loves us, His precious children.
