Jesus' invitation, "Come . . . all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28), is as relevant today as when Matthew first wrote it. Jesus' offer is so real that it seems to be written just for me, and I am sure that you get the same impression.
And the truth is that this "weariness" is not just physical but spiritual and emotional as well. We all yearn for a sense of wholeness, of spiritual refreshment, and restoration. We want the joy of our salvation to be restored in the core of our souls; maybe that's why Jesus said, "And you will find rest for your souls" (verse 29). Our hearts are worn out in the struggles of life; Jesus knows about this and offers us a remedy. He offers to give rest to our weary souls, which we all need so badly.
