By the end of Ephesians 6:17 Paul has completed his description of the spiritual armor of God, but he has not concluded his discussion of radical protection. What he tells us in the verses that follow is also vitally important: "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints" (verse 18).
Paul urges those who have clothed themselves with spiritual armor to pray. Pray as you strap on the armor of God and as you take up the Sword of the Spirit. In fact, praying is something that you do moment by moment throughout the day. "Pray on all occasions." Not just a 30-second prayer before you leave the house in the morning. Those with the whole armor of God, Paul admonishes to pray always, on all occasions, at all times. Pray without ceasing.
