Pray in the Spirit

Devotional for Wednesday, November 29, 2017
This devotional is brought to you by Pacific Press® Publishing Association.

What does it mean to pray in the Spirit? As you clothe yourself with the armor of God and take up the Sword of the Spirit, you are called to pray in the Spirit on all occasions and at all times. To pray in the Spirit does not mean to pray a certain type of prayer, or a certain style of prayer. Rather, it involves prayer guided by, enabled by, and in harmony with the Holy Spirit Himself.

Notice Paul's words: "Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered" (Rom. 8:26). Just as the Holy Spirit brings the Word of God to memory in your battle against the forces of evil, so the Holy Spirit helps you to pray constantly. The Holy Spirit prays with you, through you, and for you.
