Since Ed Dickerson started teaching elementary school at age 19, Ed has taught at every level from kindergarten to graduate school, both in the U.S. and abroad. A homeschool pioneer in Iowa, he played a pivotal role in changing the state law. In recognition of that service, the Governor selected him to serve on numerous boards and committees dealing with a whole range of education issues.
The author of scores of articles, he has been published on three continents and in several languages. He specializes in making Christianity accessible and acceptable to contemporary audiences. His writing and speaking are peppered with references to science, psychology, literature, movies– even popular culture. "Like the Apostle Paul," he says, "I'd rather say five words that everyone can understand and learn from than say ten thousand that sound to others like gibberish." (1 Cor 14:19 The Message)
As someone who has worked with young people his whole life, his has a passion to put "‘Present Truth’ in the present tense." To aid in that endeavor, he planted the HomePage, a church targeted at Generation X. After visiting the Cafékirken in Copenhagen, he included a café style outreach called "Grounds for Belief."
He and high school sweetheart Mavis have three grown children, and three grandchildren. He holds an M.A. in Religious Education from Andrews University. When he’s not writing or speaking, Ed enjoys reading, song writing and arranging music, watching football, golf, photography, travel, conversation, and watching movies with his extended family on his son’s home theater system.
